Tension gripped the city after angry ITBP commandos surrounded the Kanpur Police Commissioner’s office, protesting against the alleged inaction of authorities in a case involving medical negligence during the treatment of a fellow jawan’s mother.
According to reports, the commandos were upset over the lack of strict action against the hospital accused of negligence. The incident sparked strong emotions among the security personnel, who demanded immediate justice and accountability from the administration.
The protest by the ITBP personnel revived memories of a controversial incident from the past involving the family of former Punjab Chief Minister Pratap Singh Kairon. In that case, Army personnel had allegedly dragged and beaten Surinder Kairon, the CM’s son, after he and his friends reportedly passed objectionable remarks at the wife of an Army officer. The soldiers had publicly assaulted him, leading to widespread outrage, after which Pratap Singh Kairon reportedly apologized for his son’s behavior.
Though the action of the ITBP commandos may be viewed by some as indiscipline, many believe their anger reflects the emotional pain and frustration of uniformed personnel when justice appears delayed. Security forces personnel, despite their disciplined training, are also human beings with emotions and deep personal attachments.
The incident has now become a major talking point, with questions being raised over the hospital’s conduct as well as the administration’s response to the allegations.
