Three cheers for social media and RTI activism.
It is the power of social media that a person occupying highest judicial position in the country had to clarify his controversial remarks suggesting that some unemployed youth were behaving like “parasites.” The comments triggered strong reactions on social media, with many questioning and challenging the remarks.
Justice Surya Kant later clarified that his remarks had been taken out of context and added that every youth of the country inspires him. His clarification appears to have helped calm the controversy.
Tailpiece:
Perhaps, after rising to the position of Chief Justice, he has forgotten his own younger days when he too used to confront the system and was even given the tag of “Vidhrohi” (rebel), recalls veteran politician Ved Prakash Vidhrohi.
It is good that the chapter has now ended on a happy note. Hopefully, in future, My Lord will avoid making controversial remarks and also curtail his frequent visits to his home state, Haryana.
Politicians may afford loose comments, but certainly not the Chief Justice.Tailpiece.This scribe is busting scandals and scams on social media and reports are mentioned in Haryana assembly.Exposure about bribe demand by inspectors of office of Assistant Registrar Cooperative societies Gurugram has led to suspension of three inspectors highly politically connected within half an hour of story on social media.
