Decoding recovery of large quantities of illegal foreign liquor from Gurugram liquor shops.Recall that around 3,920 cases and 174 bottles of premium 80 varieties including Black White ,Black Level ,Absolute Double Black,Ballentine ,Bushmills ,Chivas and Elite were recovered.
The liquor was reportedly stored in two specially created rooms behind the vend and sold alongside legal stock at reduced rates .Our investigation has revealed sensational disclosures and it has all the ingredients of a potbelly Mumbai thriller having spices of corruption ,political clout and saving own person.More you investigate more the issue gets murkier.On a tip raid was conducted by Excise bosses and liquor worth crores was seized.
An Inspector who was part of raiding party was suspended.Millions dollars question is why he was suspended?Were senior officers were sleeping till tip was received.Search operation after the recovery is more mysterious.No bottle or even a drop of liquor was recovered from other shops of same liquor vendor. Same with the other contractors . Not even a drop of similar smuggled liquor found in any other shop of Gurugram. Which means while Gurugram Excise was on job and raiding each and every shop of the district, someone from above was giving tip about their locations and next targets .
The recovered bottles didn’t have mandatory excise holograms indicating that they were smuggled without paying customs and other state duties.According to a report in The Hindustan Times Advocate Rajeev Yadav had submitted evidence to the department over several months ago but no action was taken.The liquor was sold at forty percent low price hence it attracted large numbers of customers.To add salt to the injury Amit Bhatia DETC(East ) claimed that surprise inspections were carried at several vends but no violations were found .
