Gustakhi Maaf Haryana – Pawan Kumar Bansal
Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has been ranked 34th, while Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has been placed 72nd among the 100 most powerful Indians, as per a list released by The Indian Express.
According to the publication, Khattar’s citation notes that he is “heading the Power Ministry at a turbulent time for global energy security due to the West Asia crisis.” It also highlights that he continues to keep a close watch on developments in Haryana and is frequently present at events held at Haryana Bhawan.
Our observations on Manohar Lal Khattar:
As a Union Minister, he appears focused on advancing the business agenda of a powerful industrialist. He is perceived to show limited engagement with his मंत्रालय (ministry), spending a significant amount of time in Haryana instead. Administrative decisions are largely handled by his personal staff, with files reportedly cleared by aides before receiving his formal approval. His tenure as Haryana Chief Minister, where he served two terms, is viewed by critics as unsuccessful.
On Nayab Singh Saini (Ranked 72):
The Indian Express notes that Saini’s political rise is largely attributed to his predecessor, Manohar Lal Khattar, whom he regards as his mentor. The citation adds that Saini is expected to strengthen his administrative control and play a key role in the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, where he has already begun active outreach.
Our observations on Nayab Singh Saini:
He is widely regarded as a soft-spoken, courteous, and approachable leader. However, he is yet to firmly establish control over the administration. This is attributed, in part, to continued interference by his mentor, Manohar Lal Khattar, in day-to-day governance, reportedly through Rajesh Khullar, Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister.
