Haryana cadre IFS officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi was persecuted for challenging the high and mighty. Now case studies on him are an integral part of the coaching materials of all renowned institutes as a case study in the GS-4 (Ethics) paper of the Civil Services (Mains).

Whistle-blower crusader against corruption Sanjiv, our enlightened reader, is a recipient of the prestigious Magsaysay Award. As CVO (Vigilance) of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, he tamed mafias, during which he came in direct conflict with the Modi government.

Before that, he had a long-drawn battle with the Bhupinder Hooda-led government in Haryana, during which four times the President of India intervened in his favour, setting aside punitive orders of the Haryana government, which is a record for any All India Service officer.

He argues his cases in person before various courts and so far 16 judges have recused from hearing his cases, which include two CJIs and four judges of High Courts, which is again a record.

In Uttarakhand, his works in conservation of threatened plant species have been widely appreciated. Nowadays he is posted as Director of the Uttarakhand Forest Training Academy at Haldwani in Uttarakhand.
