End of the Mumbai-style potboiler thriller “Sushil Kumar – VIP gunman of then Rohtak IG Y. Puran Kumar”, but the mystery remains: who demanded ₹50 crore for clearing the name of gangster Inderjit Singh Yadav from a murder case?

Gunman Sushil Kumar, liquor contractor Bansal, ASI Sandeep Lathar, then DGP Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor, Rohtak SP Narender Birjaniya and Inderjit Yadav were the main characters of this real-life film.

Sequence of events:
Rohtak Police arrested Sushil Kumar, VIP gunman of Y. Puran Kumar, on a complaint by liquor contractor Mr. Bansal, who alleged a demand for money on behalf of Y. Puran Kumar to allow him to run his business.

The next day, Y. Puran Kumar committed suicide at his Chandigarh residence. He left a suicide note alleging harassment by a dozen serving and retired IAS and IPS officers of Haryana.

Chandigarh Police registered a case. Puran Kumar’s wife, IAS officer Amneet Kumar, alleged that Sushil Kumar was falsely implicated at the instance of Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor, which triggered her husband’s suicide. She refused to allow cremation, turning the issue political and resulting in the postponement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Haryana.

Kapoor went on leave and SP Narender Birjaniya was removed. Meanwhile, ASI Sandeep Lathar, who had arrested Sushil Kumar, also committed suicide, alleging a massive bribery racket involving liquor contractors.

Union Minister Manohar Lal promised a government job to Sandeep Lathar’s widow, which was ultimately provided along with financial assistance of ₹1 crore.

Later, Birjaniya was posted as SP Karnal and Kapoor was appointed Director General of ITBP. Chandigarh Police questioned several serving and retired IAS and IPS officers of Haryana in connection with Y. Puran Kumar’s suicide.

Sushil Kumar was granted bail as police failed to file the charge-sheet within the stipulated period. He was allotted a room in the PWD Rest House, Rohtak, and reportedly operated from the office of Rohtak IG Y. Puran Kumar.
