In a major verdict in the widely discussed Shyam Sundar murder case of 2021, the Court of Additional Sessions Judge Shri Jaibir Singh in Jind has convicted all 11 accused and sentenced them to rigorous life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹75,000 each.
According to the police spokesperson, the conviction was secured due to strong evidence and effective prosecution by Jind Police. The court also ordered that in case of non-payment of the fine, the convicts will have to undergo additional imprisonment.
As per the statement of the complainant Hanny Bansal, he was standing outside his office along with his uncle Shyam Sundar and brother Ankush when three masked assailants opened indiscriminate fire at them. In the attack, Shyam Sundar died on the spot, while Hanny Bansal sustained a gunshot injury in his leg.
Based on the complaint, a case FIR No. 592 dated 23 November 2021 was registered at Police Station City Jind under Sections 302, 307, 120B, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 25 of the Arms Act.
Due to the strong investigation by Jind Police and effective arguments presented by Deputy District Attorney (DDA) Surender Khatkar, the Additional Sessions Court convicted the following 11 accused:
Naresh, Dharmender, Baljit, Roshan, Jagdish (residents of Jind), Pradeep alias Gatha, Manjeet alias Bantu, Pawan, Sachin alias Gandhi (resident of Hisar), Rajesh alias Leela (resident of Sisai), and Kuldeep (resident of Khandrai, Sonipat).
The court awarded the following sentences:
Section 302 IPC (Murder): Life imprisonment and fine of ₹25,000
Section 120B IPC (Criminal Conspiracy): Life imprisonment and fine of ₹25,000
Section 307 IPC (Attempt to Murder): 10 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of ₹15,000
Arms Act: 7 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of ₹10,000
The court further ordered that if the convicts fail to pay the fine, they will have to undergo an additional two years of imprisonment.
