Remembering late Haryana cadre retired IAS officer K. C. Sharma on the occasion of his 80th birth anniversary. A distinguished administrator and cultural enthusiast, K.C. Sharma devoted his life not only to public service but also to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Haryana.

His son, Rohit Sharma, fondly recalls the memories of his father. “Daddy, as I used to call my revered father, was someone I always cherished being around. Even as a small child, I used to visit his office and scribble with the pens lying on his table. He would lovingly call me ‘Sai Baba’,” he shared.

K.C. Sharma’s journey was truly inspiring. Born in the humble village of Lohari Jatu in Bhiwani district of Haryana, he rose through dedication and hard work to achieve remarkable success. He first joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1969 and later secured a place in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1970, achieving the 17th rank in the country.

As an administrator, he was deeply committed to the welfare of the poor and marginalized. His passion for rural development, tree plantation, and the upkeep of temples reflected his concern for both society and heritage.

Beyond his administrative career, K.C. Sharma played a significant role in nurturing Haryanvi culture. During the 1970s, he conducted extensive research on legendary folk poet Pandit Lakhmi Chand, popularly known as Surya Kavi. Through his efforts, traditional art forms such as Haryanvi Ragini and Saang were revived and brought back into the cultural spotlight.

He also authored several books on Haryanvi culture and folklore, earning recognition both nationally and internationally. His contributions were honored with the prestigious Haryana Sahitya Akademi Award.

Though the family lost him in January 2017, his legacy continues to inspire countless people whose lives he touched. His dedication, values, and love remain deeply etched in the hearts of his family and admirers.

Remembering him with deep respect and affection, his son said, “He was someone I always looked up to and tried to follow in his footsteps. I hope his blessings and love remain with us forever. Love you, Daddy. You are remembered from the core of my heart.”
