By our enlightened reader RN Malik.Only way to get released from the stranglehold of air pollution in NCR
Many friends ask me what is the way out to get relief from suffocating air pollution in the NCR. Answer is very simple. 40 percent air pollution due to dust that can be easily eradicated. 50 percent air pollution is due to vehicles. The issue of air pollution is already under consideration of the Bench led by the Chief Justice. Therefore a request should be made signed by 100 citizens to the Bench to issue five following directions to the three governments of Haryana,U.P. and Delhi.
1. Direct the three governments to clean all the roads and streets within 15 days in various towns and cities of NCR.
2.Direct the three governments to ensure that all the unpaved surfaces are either paved or grassed within 4 months. Paving of raw surfaces between the boundary of the residence/shops and the road edges should be given top priority.
3.Direct the three governments to ensure that owners of vacant plots construct the boundary walls within 4 months and grow grass inside the plot.
4.Builders should not be allowed to dump the building material on the road edges and boundary of the plot
5.The three governments should be directed to ensure that vehicles run on all the major roads of the city according to the Odd-Even formula.
If the above five steps are taken, AQI of 400 will be reduced to 150 in the two months of November and December and proportionately less in the remaining months.
The only remedy available to breath in the comparatively cleaner air is to leave NCR and reside in villages. There is no other short cut.
People living in NCR are frequently complaining about forgetting names of friends, places and other events. This is happening because they are residing in a big gas chamber of NCR. The air pollution of NCR primarily consists of two components namely dust and vehicular exhausts. Dust is an inert material but its very fine particles get deposited in the lungs and hamper the inhalation and exhalation process. The chemical compounds in vehicular exhausts affect the oxygen carrying capacity of blood to the brain. Besides harming other organs, these compounds affect the cognitive power of the brain very much.
It is almost impossible to enjoy good health while residing in the gas chamber of NCR. You should have no hope either from the three governments of Haryana, Delhi and UP , the Central government or even from the Supreme Court for any mitigation of the situation. A writ is filled against rising pollution every year in the Supreme Court and it ends in a damp squib Political rulers, as usual keep mum over this health emergency. You can visualise their insensitiveness towards the welfare of the people. People, in general too, are least bothered about inhaling poisonous air daily. Many feel that installation of air purifiers solves all the problems. Their silence is probably due to their ignorance about the extent of damage the poisonous air is causing to their health. So the choice is yours whether to leave or live in the gas chamber.
