Haryana’s Fight to Save the Girl Child Bears Fruit: Sex Ratio at Birth Rises to 923 in 2025

Tightening noose around sex selective abortions and squeezing availability of illegal MTP kits to “Save The Girl Child” bore fruits in the State of Haryana to feel proud in protecting around 5000 girls from being killed in womb during 2025.

State witnessed 923 as its Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) during 2025 after declining to 910 in 2024.

Three of its districts achieved distinction with 950+ as their SRB with Panchkula reporting 971 breaking all its previous records in SRB.

Four lowest Child Sex Ratio districts (Rewari, Narnaul, Jhajjar & Sonipat as per Census 2011) also excelled in their SRB reporting SRB around 900 or 900+ during 2025.

State achieved SRB of 923 which is Landmark achievement for the State earlier infamous for “baby killer”…..

Since its existence Haryana achieved 923 as its SRB previously in 2019 and repeated this time.

Thanks to the State Task Force constituted in March 2025 comprising of officers from Health, WCD, Police, Prosecution, FDA, Ayush, NHM, whose untiring efforts under the leadership of Sh Sudhir Rajpal IAS, Health Secretary reviewing/ monitoring SRB on weekly basis made it to happen.
Innovative initiatives like reverse tracking of unlawful abortions of pregnant women with previous girl child, SAHELI Project, deputing DSP level oficer as District Nodal PNDT/MTP and continously review/monitoring B3P helped the State to achieve this distinction.

State could save more than 60000 girls after launch of B3P which otherwise could have been killed in womb. More than 150 cases of FIRs under PNDT/MTP were registered during 2024 along against the offenders by the raiding teams entrusted this task.
