After a hard fought rise.“The Million-Dollar Question: Why Is Manohar Lal Now Surrounded by Controversy and Yes-Men?”

In the shifting landscape of Haryana’s politics, a pressing question emerges: do leaders who rise from the crucible of struggle to the pinnacle of power manage to hold on to the values that once defined them?
It is often recounted that Manohar Lal Khattar led an austere life in his early years. From his village Bhali, in Rohtak district of Haryana he would cycle to Bhiwani Road, board a bus to Rohtak, and then take a local bus onward to college—an arduous daily routine shaped by necessity. Financial constraints were such that even hostel accommodation remained out of reach.
His contemporary, Jaibhagwan Hooda, who later retired from the Reserve Bank of India and studied alongside him at Government College, Rohtak, recalls that Khattar had enrolled in pre-medical studies. He was known to commute long distances for his education, and by all accounts, possessed a sociable and talkative disposition.
Yet circumstances intervened. Forced to discontinue his studies, he withdrew his modest security deposit and moved to Delhi. Had he continued, one might speculate he would have become a doctor. Instead, destiny charted a different course—one that ultimately led him to the summit of state politics and now national politics.
In Hindu philosophical terms, such a trajectory might be described as Rajyoga—the फल of past कर्म. But once such an opportunity is realized, does it not demand a legacy of work worthy of history’s record?
Critics today raise a pointed concern: after such a journey of hardship, why does he now appear surrounded by controversial अधिकारियों and sycophantic advisors? Is this the same individual who once navigated adversity with resilience and purpose?
This is not merely a question about one व्यक्ति. It speaks to a broader systemic tension—where the exercise of power often becomes the ultimate परीक्षण of values.
A question remains, still awaiting an answer.
