Former U.S. President Donald Trump appears to be following the famous observation often attributed to Mark Twain: “God created war so that Americans would learn geography.”

Trump seems to recognise no limits. Earlier, his focus was on Venezuela, and now it has shifted to Iran. Adding to global concerns, he has even hinted that Cuba could be next.

In a controversial remark, Trump described the ongoing conflict with Iran as a “short-term excursion,” while simultaneously warning of further strikes.

Such statements have drawn criticism for trivialising the seriousness of war and the human suffering it causes.

Had he experienced life in a bombed region, he might better understand that war is anything but “fun.” The devastation, loss of life, and long-term consequences make such rhetoric deeply troubling.

At a time when tensions are already high, the international community must act responsibly and urgently to bring this senseless conflict to an end before it escalates beyond control.
