Why cling to a few tired ancient hills when the real emergency is far more urgent, the unquenchable hunger for money? After all, rocks don’t vote, trees don’t donate ,and mountains stubbornly refuse to sit on corporate boards? What possible use are the Aravallies in an economy where appetite, not ecology, defines survival?
The Aravalli range has stood for millions of years performing thankless jobs:,holding ground water, stopping deserts, moderating climate, and preventing entire cities turning into dust bowls. But,let’s be honest ,none of these show up on the corporate quarterly balance sheets. A Mine,on the other hand, produces instant profits, instant employment, and instant excuses.who needs long term water security when you can have short term liquidity?
Supporters of conservation argue that destroying the Aravalli worsens heat waves, water security, floods and air pollution. This is exaggerated pessimism.Humans have always adapted by buying bottled waters, installing air conditioners, and migrating when things became uncomfortable. If cities choke and villages dry up,that’s is just market driven evolution.Survival of the richest?
Besides, hunger for food is a solvable problem but hunger for money is not??
Environmental laws, court orders and expert committees keep insisting that the Aravallies are ecologically irreplaceable. This is deeply inconvenient.
replacements are the cornerstone of modern development. If hill disappear replace it with a mall,if a forest vanishes ,replace it with a press release,if water runs out ,replace it with water tanker contracts. Everything is replaceable except profit margins??
So let’s ask the honest questions, why should the Aravallies survive when men are dying of hunger for money? Let the hills step aside, the escalators are hungry, the files are cleared, the conscience is comfortably numb. After all, you can’t eat a mountain….but you can certainly sell it,piece by profitable piece..
And when the desert finally arrives decades later, the rulers will appoint judicial commission to study how &why it all happened??????
