“Faridabad Hospital Death: Family Takes Woman’s Body Home on Cart Amid Claims of Free Treatment”

Dialysis is completely free in all government hospitals, claims CM Nayab Saini.
In Faridabad, a woman dies in a hospital; the family, out of cash, takes the body home on a cart — reported by The Times of India.
A slap on the face of the government.

According to the report, “The body of Anuradha, a 35-year-old woman who died during TB treatment at a Faridabad hospital, was taken home by her family last Wednesday in the same motorised pushcart from which they earn their livelihood. With his grandfather driving the cart and his father and grandmother in mourning, the woman’s seven-year-old son did his best to ensure the journey was as dignified as possible for his dead mother, holding on to the sheet draped over her corpse to prevent the wind from blowing it away. Shockingly, during the ten-kilometre journey from Badshah Khan Civil Hospital to their house in Sarurpur, the family of four was utterly alone, making way through traffic, focused on safely completing the ride.”

The family said ambulances asked for ₹700, but they did not have money left even for the last rites.

To add salt to the injury, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr M.P. Singh says the case will be investigated and if any negligence is found, action will be taken.

“हर प्यार वादा निभाए, ये ज़रूरी तो नहीं,
हर रात अच्छा ख़्वाब लाए, ये भी ज़रूरी तो नहीं।
कुछ लाशें भी नंगी रह जाती हैं इस लोकतंत्र में,
हर लाश कफ़न पाए, ये ज़रूरी तो नहीं।”
